Graduate Le’Asia Ross
by Christina Roberts
In the CCCS Student Spotlight, we feature one of the many students that inspire us every day. In today’s spotlight, we want to feature Le’Asia Ross, a CCCS graduate from 2018.
What She’s Doing Now: Work and Higher Education
We caught up with Le’Asia to see where life has taken her since graduation, and she’s starting a career in health care! Le’Asia has been working at an assisted living home for the elderly. She started there as a caregiver and has moved up to her current position as a Medication Assistant. She says this job is a natural fit for her: “It’s a passion for me. It comes from the heart, and I feel comfortable doing it. The residents enjoy my company and like and respect me for who I am. I have an old soul!”
Le’Asia is also going to Carrington College, studying to be a Pharmacy Technician. She has about 6-7 months to go to reach this goal!
A Non-Traditional High School Path
Earning a high school diploma was not an easy or a traditional road for Le’Asia. She had left school in mid-10th grade due to family issues and her living situation, and returned at age 17 because she was determined to get a high school diploma rather than a G.E.D. She has been supporting herself since she was 16.
Advice for CCCS Students
Le’Asia understands that many students may be in challenging situations, and her advice to current CCCS students is this:
“Don’t give up no matter how hard things get in life. If you have dreams to better your life, keep doing what you need to do to graduate and keep getting where you need to get.” She also encourages students to go for a high school diploma because “a diploma can get you more places than a GED.”
Support at CCCS
Le’Asia appreciated the support she had at CCCS: “the teachers made me feel welcome, and believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. They pushed me to graduate and helped me even in my lowest moments.”
We couldn’t be prouder of Le’Asia and the resilience, determination, and grit that is taking her places in the world!
