In-Person Classes Offered
Dual Enrollment: Supports students who are taking a community college class for dual high school and college credit. Facilitated by a teacher and a CCCS alumnus who is a student at CSU Sacramento and a CCCS Paraeduator.
Adulting 101: (community identified need): Developing financial responsibility in the modern world and preparing for life after high school.
Peer Mentoring: Students learn about 8 Dimensions of Wellness and what they can do to be happy, healthy and successful in all 8 dimensions. Then they learn the skills to pass that on to their peers, becoming a peer mentor. Facilitated by Sacramento Youth Center staff. Students who complete peer mentoring may be eligible for paid internships with the Sacramento Youth Center.
College and Career Readiness: Career and technical education teachers prepare students with the skills and knowledge needed to be successful in college and career.
Music Audio Recording & Production: Students will learn how to professionally record, mix, and master audio using industry standard equipment and software. Students will learn how to navigate Avid Pro Tools software, which is used by today’s top producers and artists. The instructors have over 30 years of collective experience in the music industry. In some semesters, guitar and drum lessons are also included.
English: in-person instruction from a credentialed English teacher to complement the computer-based ELA courses.
Read 180: Integrates research around personalized best practices, adaptive technology, instructional strategies based on the science of reading, and scaffolded support for reading independently. Students receive systematic, explicit instruction and practice of foundational literacy skills to develop their fluency, expand vocabulary and strengthen comprehension skills to become proficient, skillful readers.
Time2Tabletop: An interactive Role-playing Game class designed to help students develop social-emotional skills and increase their self-awareness, emotional management, collaboration, communication and divergent thinking skills. It makes learning about yourself and others fun, constructive and interactive.
Onboarding: A four-week class to set students up for success by covering the skills needed to be successful in the independent study learning environment.
